Another historic announcement for Charlotte, North Carolina as FIFA has selected the city as one of the host cities for the expanded 2025 FIFA Club World Cup. This prestigious tournament, scheduled from June 15 to July 13, 2025, will feature 32 elite club teams from around the globe, marking a significant evolution in its format.

The Bank of America Stadium, a venue renowned for hosting major sporting events. With a seating capacity of approximately 75,000, stands as one of the largest stadiums selected for the Club World Cup. The stadium’s modern amenities and strategic location (international airport) make it an ideal choice for accommodating both local and international soccer enthusiasts. Ever since the inaugural match for Charlotte FC the city has become something of a soccer hub in the eastern side of the US. In 2024 it hosted two Copa America games, and a Chelsea VS Real Madrid pre-season match, proof of Charlotte's huge local soccer fan base and ability to host such international events with the approval of institutions such as CONMEBOL and FIFA.

What does it mean for Charlotte?

Hosting the FIFA Club World Cup is projected to bring substantial economic benefits to Charlotte. The influx of international visitors will likely boost local businesses, from hotels and restaurants to retail establishments. Beyond the immediate economic uplift, the event offers Charlotte an opportunity to showcase its vibrant culture and establish itself as a premier destination for global soccer events. Although Charlotte’s non-selection as a host city for the 2026 FIFA World Cup was primarily due to its non-participation in the bidding process due to the requirements set by FIFA for host venues, it is without a doubt transformed into a soccer city.
