Monterrey, Mexico, December 15, 2024 — In a thrilling conclusion to the Liga MX Apertura 2024, Club América secured a historic third consecutive league title by defeating Monterrey with a 3-2 aggregate score.

The first leg, held at Estadio Cuauhtémoc in Puebla due to renovations at Estadio Azteca, saw América overturn an early deficit to win 2-1. Monterrey’s initial lead was nullified by goals from Kevin Álvarez and Alejandro Zendejas, showcasing América’s resilience.

In the second leg at Estadio BBVA, Monterrey pressed for an equalizer but was met with a disciplined América defense. A decisive goal from Richard Sánchez extended América’s lead, and despite a late response from Monterrey’s Johan Rojas, the match concluded at 1-1, sealing a 3-2 aggregate victory for Las Águilas.

This triumph marks América’s 16th league title, reinforcing their status as the most successful club in Mexican football history. Notably, they become the first team to win three consecutive Liga MX titles since the introduction of short tournaments in 1996, a testament to their dominance under Brazilian coach André Jardine.

Jardine, who took the helm in June 2023, has now led América to three straight championships, becoming the first manager in the club’s history to achieve this feat. His leadership has been pivotal in blending experienced stalwarts with emerging talents, creating a squad capable of sustained excellence.

As celebrations erupt among the América faithful, thoughts inevitably turn to the future. Maintaining such high standards will be a formidable challenge, but with a solid foundation and a winning mentality deeply ingrained, Club América appears well-positioned to continue their reign atop Mexican football.

For now, the achievement of the tricampeonato stands as a monumental chapter in the club’s illustrious history, a period that fans and players alike will cherish for years to come.
