North Carolina FC beats Charlotte FC 1-0 in the first of it's kinda; A Carolina Clash.

In a preseason friendly North Carolina FC secured a 1-0 victory over Charlotte FC at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, North Carolina. The decisive goal came in the 78th minute from midfielder Pedro Becker Dolabella, who capitalized on a defensive lapse to slot the ball past Charlotte’s goalkeeper.

This match marked the first-ever meeting between the two in-state clubs, generating significant interest among local soccer enthusiasts.

Charlotte FC, preparing for their upcoming Major League Soccer (MLS) season, fielded a mix of first-team regulars with new team additions such as Eryk Williamson. Despite creating several scoring opportunities, they were unable to find the back of the net, highlighting areas for improvement in their attacking play. North Carolina FC, competing in the USL Championship, showcased a cohesive performance, with their defense effectively neutralizing Charlotte’s offensive threats. Becker’s late goal was a testament to the team’s persistence and tactical discipline throughout the match.

Charlotte FC’s head coach emphasized that " Results in pre season don’t matter” to him and the importance of "making sure people get pretty fit" during the preseason. Continuing to Build team chemistry is crucial to this promising squad as they approach their MLS season opener against Seattle Sounders FC on February 22. 

Conversely, North Carolina FC’s coaching team expressed satisfaction with their squad’s performance, noting that the victory serves as a confidence booster ahead of their USL Championship campaign.

The match also highlighted the growing soccer culture in North Carolina, with fans from both sides turning out in support despite the preseason setting and hazy-cold weather. The encounter also set the stage for what could become a pre-season rivalry between the two clubs, having been Dubbed the "Carolina Clash".

Charlotte will face Atlanta United in their home opener on March 1st, at the Bank Of America, with North Carolina FC facing Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC at WakeMed Soccer Park on March 8th as they begin their USL Championship campaign.
