Sergio Pérez and Red Bull Racing have mutually agreed to part ways, concluding their partnership after the 2024 Formula 1 season. This decision comes despite Pérez having signed a contract extension earlier in the year that was set to keep him with the team until 2026.

Pérez joined Red Bull Racing in 2021, bringing experience and skill that contributed to the team’s successes over four seasons. During his tenure, he secured multiple race victories and podium finishes, playing a pivotal role in Red Bull’s competitive standing in the Constructors’ Championship. However, the 2024 season proved challenging for Pérez, who finished eighth in the Drivers’ Championship, a significant gap behind his teammate, Max Verstappen, who clinched his fourth consecutive World Drivers’ Championship title.

In a statement, Pérez expressed gratitude for his time with Red Bull Racing: “I’m incredibly grateful for the last four years with Oracle Red Bull Racing and for the opportunity to race with such an incredible team. Driving for Red Bull has been an unforgettable experience, and I will always cherish the successes we’ve achieved together.”
Red Bull Racing’s Team Principal, Christian Horner, acknowledged Pérez’s contributions: “We want to thank ‘Checo’ for everything he has done for Oracle Red Bull Racing over the past four seasons. While ‘Checo’ won’t be racing for the team next season, he will always be an extremely popular member of the team and a cherished part of our history.”

Looking ahead, Red Bull Racing has announced that 22-year-old New Zealander Liam Lawson will join the team as Max Verstappen’s teammate for the 2025 season. Lawson, who has been part of the Red Bull Junior Team since 2019, gained experience with the sister team, Racing Bulls, and has shown promise in his performances. Christian Horner commented on Lawson’s promotion: “Liam has demonstrated his ability to deliver strong results, and we believe he is ready to race alongside a world champion like Verstappen.”
Lawson expressed his excitement about the opportunity: “Joining Oracle Red Bull Racing as a race driver is a dream come true. I have learned a lot within the Red Bull family, and I look forward to contributing to the team’s continued success alongside Max.”
As for Pérez, his departure from Red Bull Racing leaves his future in Formula 1 uncertain. With no confirmed seat for the 2025 season, it remains to be seen whether he will secure a position with another team or explore opportunities outside the sport. Pérez remains optimistic, stating, “We will meet again soon. And remember: never give up.”
This significant change in Red Bull Racing’s lineup marks the end of an era and the beginning of a new chapter as the team continues its pursuit of excellence in Formula 1.
